About
The name Cosmomusivo brings together two concepts: Cosmos, representing expansiveness and harmony, and Musivo, derived from the Latin adjective musivus, which refers to mosaic art — as in ars musiva, the Latin term for “mosaic art.” Above all, however, Cosmomusivo also symbolically represents the creative, constructive, and long-standing collaboration of experienced mosaicists from across Europe, highly qualified conservators, material manufacturers, craftspeople, and artists. Together, we create mosaic art of the highest quality.
My name is Svenja Teichert. I am a trained mosaic artist and mosaicist, having graduated in 1995 from the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, a specialized college for mosaic art in Northern Italy. Since 2007, I have also focused on historic mosaics and have worked as a mosaic conservator.
In 1996, together with Giuseppe Fornasari, I founded Cosmomusivo in Berlin-Mitte. In 2011, after 15 years in Mitte, we moved Cosmomusivo to Aufbau Haus at Moritzplatz. Over the more than 30-year history of Cosmomusivo, we have realized numerous large and small mosaic projects. Since the company’s co-founder returned to his Italian homeland in 2021, I have been the sole managing director and artistic director of the atelier.
The materials used in Cosmomusivo’s mosaic artworks — such as mosaic glass and natural stone — are supplied by Italian family-run businesses with decades of artisanal tradition.
